No 911 Calling :

Spoxcy does not provide 911 Calling.

Spoxcy advice their customers to have a basic PSTN phone in case of emergency to call 911. Since VOIP works on broadband connection, the phone will not work if the phone is not connected to broadband or if the broadband is not working. 911 cannot be reached through Spoxcy Voip Service.

What Is Interconnected VoIP Service?

Interconnected VoIP service allows you to make and receive calls to and from traditional phone numbers, usually using an Internet connection, possibly a high-speed (broadband) Internet connection, such as Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), cable modem, or wireless broadband. It can be used in place of traditional phone service. Typically, interconnected VoIP technology works by either placing an adapter between a traditional phone and Internet connection, or by using a special VoIP phone that connects directly to your computer or Internet connection. Interconnected VoIP services can be used wherever you travel, as long as a broadband Internet connection is available.

How Does Enhanced 911 works with Traditionsl PSTN Phone?

  • You dial 9-1-1.
  • The phone company computer recognizes the number, accesses the Automatic Number Identification(ANI) to get your number and routes the call to the dedicated 9-1-1 switch that acts as a hub for the local network.
  • The network uses your number to get your address from the Automatic Location Identification (ALI) and uses your address to determine the proper PSAP destination from the Master Street Address Guide (MSAG) (this is sometimes called selective routing, because the switch uses dynamic data to determine where to send your call instead of blindly routing it to a pre-determined PSAP). In most cases, this all takes a little over one second.
  • Your phone call now carries your phone number and address along with your voice data to the nearest available Public Safety Answering Point(PSAP). This information is displayed on the call-taker's computer when he or she takes your call.
  • Some PSAPs simultaneously send that ANI/ALI data to the police computer dispatch network to allow for immediate access.
  • If necessary, many PSAPs can transfer your call and your accompanying data to another PSAP.

When you're dialing from a landline, this system works really well. But when new phone technology like VOIP enters the picture, a few hiccups emerge.

VOIP Issue with 911 Calling

As we have already mentioned above Traditional phone services have generally associated the particular phone number with a fixed address. But on the other hand VoIP service enables consumers to take their home or business phone service almost anywhere and use with any Internet connection, so the location of the caller cannot automatically be determined.

  • VoIP 911 call may not connect to the PSAP
  • VoIP 911 service may ring to the administrative line of the PSAP, which may not be staffed after hours, or by trained 911 operators
  • VoIP 911 service correctly connects to the PSAP, but does not automatically transmit the user’s phone number and/or location information
  • VoIP customers may need to provide location or other information to their VoIP providers, and update this information if they change locations, for their VoIP 911 service to function properly
  • VoIP service may not work during a power outage, or when the Internet connection fails or becomes overloaded.

Why Spoxcy Does Not Provide 911 Calling ?

  • Most of the providers use 911 as their marketing term for their services and they route all 911 to their internal call center, rather to the PSAP.
  • All the VOIP providers dont have direct connectivity to PSAP and the ILEC(Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier) database, which is used by the PSAP to identify your Location and address at the time of your 911 calls. Without linking your number and address and updating the same in these databases, it will be impossible for the 911 operators to locate your details.
  • Since the customers are not aware of the Voip 911 calling flaws, the customers just depend on the voip phone and does not have a pstn landline for emergency purpose.
  • At Spoxcy, we are working hard to come up with the best solution, to make your Spoxcy phone to use 911 as same as your PSTN landline phones, at the same time enjoy all the features of Spoxcy. This is not just a statement but a promise from Spoxcy.

Spoxcy strongly recommend its customers to have a landline for emergency purpose.
